Chapter Seven.

Vladimir

“What are you doing?” Vladimir asked, making her jump.

Emmaline had been sitting in the gardens for several hours, and Vladimir wanted the reason.

“Oh, I was writing a list of what I want. When we blew my home up, I lost all my clothes and other items. I was hoping to talk Shay into a shopping trip, which is highly unlikely, as he hates it. But I need to shop because I’ve no clothes. Just a few borrowed sets of clothing,” Emmaline replied as she squinted at the paper and rubbed her brow.

Vladimir felt instant guilt. Emmaline had been there nearly a month, and nobody had inquired what she needed. And Vladimir remembered Marie’s pointed reminder a few days ago. Not even her brother.

“I imagine Shay, Durant, and Salah need items too?” Vladimir inquired.

“Yes, but they loathe shopping, so it usually fell to me to order everything. Obviously, we can’t get parcels delivered because of the traps. So, I was also trying to figure out how to go shopping. I entered here at a breakneck speed, but I don’t think I was followed. Neither Shay nor Durant sensed Hunters nearby, so I was wondering if there was a road I could use that would lead me to the closest town.”

“No, sorry, there’s not. But I can take you shopping through a mirror. And it had best be me,” Vladimir stated.

“Why? You don’t like me,” Emmaline replied, and Vladimir snorted.

“A couple of reasons. First, if you go with someone else and the Hunters use image recognition to track you, you’ll give up their human form. Two, I actually enjoy shopping, whereas most of the others hate it. And third, I have a second shifter side.”

“You do?” Emmaline quizzed; her attention caught.

“You asked who Dracula was. Before the spell was wrought, I was the only Legend who could shift between two forms. Vampire is ugly and disfigured. To counterbalance this, I shifted into a different form, allowing me to hunt and not appear suspicious. That gave Pandora and Lilith the idea of shifting our shapes,” Vladimir acknowledged.

“So Dracula is like a third persona?” Emmaline questioned, confused.

“Oh no, Dracula is a raging asshole. He’s Vampire but in a more acceptable form. I rarely shift into him. But he could pass through society, whereas the horror version can’t.”

“Can I see him?” Emmaline asked warily. That was the height of rudeness.

“Yeah,” Vladimir said, and moments later shifted. He wondered what Emmaline would make of the infamous Count Dracula. Dracula stood tall, at six foot four, with broad shoulders and long dark blonde hair. His nose was pure Roman, with thin lips and piercing blue eyes.

“Nope, prefer your human form,” Emmaline stated. “Although I can see how all those romance writers fell in love with you. There is something compelling and sexually attractive, but no… Dracula doesn’t ring my bell.”

Vladimir was laughing as he shifted back to his usual form.

“Is that so?” He chuckled.

“Yes, this version is much more attractive,” Emmaline stated baldly.

“Thanks,” Vladimir replied, amused.

“So I can go shopping? With Dracula.
